This is part of a medieval altar frontal (antependium)that I am making for a traveling personal altar that I bring to SCA camping events. It is my first attempt at embroidery.
My SCA persona is a 13th century Templar nun (yes, at some point there were women in the order, though it was frowned upon and later forbidden).
I chose this image for the center because it was one in common use in Templar churches and cathedrals. The rest of the fabric is still a work in progress.
It is hand embroidered on white cotton, using cotton embroidery floss, which was fabric actually available in the Outremer at the time.
